Long and short: we’re involved in a due process filing over our daughter’s IEP. We’ve all met with attorneys, this has been going on for a bit; tonight, the superintendent of the school called and said he’d like to meet with us WITHOUT attorneys to try and resolve this. There’s exactly no possible good outcome that can come from this, right?

        • September 2, 2009 4:52 pm

Why does it have to be bad? They probably just want to talk without people (ie attorneys) throwing out threats and stuff like that.

          • Magnakai Haaskivi permalink
            September 2, 2009 5:03 pm

It’s not that it has to be bad; they’ve made a settlement offer today that we’ve rejected on the grounds that it doesn’t really address any of the issues we have. We also had a mitigation session earlier this week that came to nothing, and they pulled something similar after that.

        • mekalek permalink

Sometimes a peaceful well rounded resolution can come about without all the Lawyering. You would always have the option to go back to the Lawyers if you don’t like what you’re hearing.

The biggest problem is that the Superintendant more than likely has gotten advice on this meeting with his/her lawyer. It will more than likely be a scripted meeting for them while you are caught shooting from the hip. I’m no lawyer but have sat through enough depositions and been a witness at enough trials that I know rule #1….which is posted above. Just my opinion though.

We need some George Carlin style rules. Turn the centre field line into a flame wall, and have snipers in the upper stands (rubber bullets, we want them to live); rule is snipers can only peg the dude currently with the ball. Make those fuckers RUN and pass.

        • September 2, 2009 6:18 pm

PROPER beer is best served between 55 and 65 degrees F, much like wine. The only reason for an ice cold beer is so you don’t taste how truly awful it is.

I had no idea. I always went for “fridge temp” or barring that “cooler temp”. Interesting.

      • September 2, 2009 6:26 pm

I correct myself (I prefer porters and stouts, hence my temperature gauge above)

The proper temperature is essential for beer enjoyment. A beer served too cold will withhold most of its flavor. But while serving beer at room temperature brings out the flavors and aromas and is appropriate when judging beer, most drinkers prefer something cooler. Some general guidelines:

        – Serve fruit beers at 40-50° F.
        – Serve wheat beers and pale lagers at 45-50° F.
        – Serve pale ales and amber or dark lagers at 50-55° F.
        – Serve strong ales, such as barley wines and Belgian ales, at 50-55° F.
        – Serve dark ales, including porters and stouts, at 55-60° F.

        • September 2, 2009 6:28 pm

I will drink anything that should be served between 45 and 55. Recommend me a good stout?

I think everyone’s excited to get into football season. I am and i probably shouldn’t be. On a side note, i commend Boise for playing Oregon and not Southwestern Idaho St.

They have to if they want to be taken seriously, but agreed. It’ll be a great game.

The trouble for Boise is that it’s their only decent game on the schedule. Tulsa a potentially distant second. If they lose to Oregon, even in a close one, they’re done for the year on the national level. And I’m pretty sure they have a 1-AA team on the schedule later.

Keep in mind thought that no one wants to play them. How many top 25 teams are going to play other top 25 teams ooc unless they absolutely have to (ex. Florida/FSU, Georgia/GT and Norte Dame/Navy). Same way with bball, we can only get 1 or 2 big time teams in the ooc because the real good mid majors won’t play us (except dayton which is a geo thing) and neither will the other big time majors.

They still won’t be playing in the BCS title game if they win this plus all their other tough games. It’ll be some stupid fucking Big 11 team, Texas, Ok State or USC playing Florida in early Jan. We need a playoff.

I don’t know, they get pulled at the slightest hint of trouble, then the next guy comes in, and then the closer. Halladay and Sabathia are the only old school hurlers left, IMO. They’re the guys who could play multiple games in a row, and complete games. And Sabathia I don’t think has the frame to last.

Cliff Lee is in that category as well. But I don’t think he has enough wins under his belt to get to 300. I don’t think we won’t ever see it again. I just believe it will a MUCH rarer feat the rest of my lifetime.

I just think it’s more likely that someone like Porcello or Hanson averages 15 wins a year for 20 years. That means they would be pitching til either 40 or 43 which is very possible considering Randy Johnson (with all his back problems, is still in there at 46) and guys like Glavine and Maddux called it quits at around 42-43. Of the guys currently in their prime Halladay is the only guy with a shot. I too think CC’s massive body will break down.

This is mainly what i was thinking of. From Deadspin. He’s funny as hell, i sat in left at Phils games for years.

The story goes: A few guys were on a business trip in Pittsburgh. A couple of the guys knew the Phils were in town, so when they all spotted Burrell at a club there one night, it wasn’t a total surprise. Pat ended up taking a liking to one of the girls in their group. She thought he was hot but didn’t follow baseball. He took her back to his hotel room, and a make-out session ensued until she alerted Pat that she would NOT do him. Not fazed by this, Burrell seemed to respect her chastity, and rather than force himself on her or fly into a blueball rage, he asked a simple question, glancing down at his engorged pants: “Mind if I take care of business?”

I was working on a music post, talking about a guy who used to play guitar at the bar… listened to him every day for years, and he always played the same songs… I had a top 5 that, once i heard them, I could call it a night… I’ve got 3, can’t think of the other two, and it’s going to keep me up all night now.

          shitty.

    • September 2, 2009 9:37 pm

Constantly. I’ve found that if I no longer use the info regularly, my brain jettisons it. For example: I used to know most major zipcodes and area codes, as well as at least 90% of inventory item numbers – off the top of my head. Now that I haven’t worked at that job for a few years? Poof. Gone.

      what?

      • September 2, 2009 9:46 pm

at my last job. all that junk i used to use every.single.day for three years, and i can’t remember any of it now.

I still know some of my food inventory codes. But they fade fast.

I remember a time when I knew people’s phone numbers. Not anymore.

I never had to use a phone book. Now I don’t even try to remember a number, unless I call it every day.

I had to give someone my old home phone number (my mom’s number)… and spaced… cell phones have made it too easy, and all I do is say “Call Mom” now…it’s hilarous. I couldn’t name, maybe, 3 phone numbers right now, counting my apartment to check the voicemail.

I just spent 20 minutes typing a response to the most recent post on ATD, only to reread the article and find that Adam said much of what I was trying to say – in about 500 fewer words.

I need to practice writing more often.

It does take some work. I’m nowhere near a pro, but I’m going to keep on trying.

      • September 2, 2009 10:03 pm

Hahaha, yeah: “The jokes on us that did the laughing now.”
That could have used a bit of help, LOL.

/not flinging stones; I’m an editor not a writer.

How in the hell did I not know about this guy until today?

    • September 2, 2009 9:54 pm

Kige Ramsey? He is a WKU and UK fan.

Meaning, that is why I have known about him forever.

No I’m not even being mean. This guy is golden. I don’t know him personally, but I’ve watched a dozen of his videos and he seems like the most genuine guy you would ever meet. Honestly.

            • September 2, 2009 10:06 pm

No, I know you’re not. I’m just explaining myself. I’m not a huge defender, but I’d get pissed when DeadSpin made him into a weird clownish meme character.

The thing I like about Kige is that he has never shit-talked UK’s team, unlike some fans who think it’s totally OK to trash-talk kids.

    • September 2, 2009 9:58 pm

Jesus, that dude was/is a Deadspin meme for over a year. Hell, C’lay went on his ‘show’.

Last Call is a special dealio. We get linked to by “partner sites” and everyone congregates here. It’ll maybe happen once or twice a month.

Oh absolutely. When I get back from Notre Dame we need to host again. Any day but Labor Day. I’ll break out some Natty Light and slam beers until sunrise with the night owls.
